Say Goodbye to the Old Books

Our library collection has not been weeded for a long time and was definitely in need of a good clean up.

The problem with weeding is the potential of removing valuable books from the library. Library staff are getting great pleasure in getting rid of books that are of no use or value to our staff and students.

Reasons for weeding include:

1. No circulation within the last X years
2. Information is out of date or superseded
3. Low circulation / low interest
4. Poor condition (replacement copies may be ordered)

How the time period is determined, or if the book can be repaired, or any of these other things are determined by the library policies and by the professional judgment of the librarians responsible for managing the collection.

Don't worry the books that are removed from the library shelves are not being thrown away just yet. They will be held in storage for a year and then they will be displayed for those interested. The book titles will still appear on the library catalogue with the status 'withdrawn'. To view a withdrawn title please ask a staff member.

I hope you enjoy our tidy, dust free shelves!!!
