New Online Resources

The library is pleased to announce access to EBSCO's Academic Search Complete & Business Source Complete following the recent announcement that funding is continuing for the IOT’s through the IReL initiative. We previously had access to the premier versions of these resources, but have been upgraded to both Complete versions of Academic Search & Business Source for 2012.

Academic Search Complete is the world's most valuable and comprehensive scholarly, multi disciplinary full text database. Featuring thousands of full text journals, this scholarly collection offers unmatched coverage of information spanning a broad range of important areas of academic study including: anthropology, astronomy, biology, chemistry, civil engineering, engineering, ethnic & multi cultural studies, geology, law, materials science, mathematics, music, pharmaceutical sciences, physics, psychology, religion & theology, veterinary science, women's studies, zoology, and many other fields.

Business Source Complete is the world’s definitive scholarly business databases, providing the leading collection of bibliographic and full text content covering all disciplines of business. Business Source Complete contains far more active, peer-reviewed, business related journals than any other database currently available. As part of the comprehensive coverage offered by this database, indexing and abstracts for the most important scholarly business journals, trade publications and top management journals dating back as far as 1886 are included.

For more information see:

Noise in the Library

As the library is very crowded at the moment in the run up to exams, noise levels, and mobile phones are becoming a huge problem. The library staff are continuously getting complaints from fellow students about the noise in the library.

Despite the best efforts of the library staff and library porters, students are continually ignoring our requests by using mobiles, talking in groups and generally disregarding consideration for other students who are studying.

Please respect the rules and regulations of the library and show consideration for all users of the library at all times.

If students wish to study together, they can book a study room for that purpose, otherwise the open floor is for individual, quiet study only.

British Standards Online

The Library recently downgraded our BSI subscription (due to budgetary restrictions) from a 15 to a 10 module package. We were able to select the modules with highest popularity here in the Institute but we are required to inform all patrons that standards from the following modules, which are no longer subscribed, must be deleted and destroyed.

As per the terms and conditions of your BSOL agreement, any documents
in any format from outside of your 10 chosen modules MUST be destroyed.

The modules we no longer have access to are:
  • GBM14 - Manufacturing Engineering
  • GBM17 Electrical Engineering in General
  • GBM27 Road Vehicle Engineering
  • GBM05 Science and Health Care
  • GBM35 Textiles, Leather and Clothing

If you have British Standards from the above modules in paper or electronic format, our BSI licence agreement requires that you remove, delete and/or destroy them. A copy of our British Standards Online (BSOL) licence is available from myself on request.

We appreciate your co-operation on this matter.
