CCAM library display - ‘Altered Book’

Cluain Mhuire students participating in the year 2 "Book Arts" module have produced an amazing body of work for their ‘Altered Book’ project.

Book-lovers will appreciate how these re-purposed tomes have gained a new lease of life, reflecting what many of us find when we first discovered reading: a fantasy world, a place of comfort, a field of challenging new ideas, a treasure trove, uncomfortable realities.

These works of art are currently on display in the CCAM library -
Call in and take a moment to appreciate another vision of reading.

    Journals

Cabinet (a quarterly of Art and Culture) has been renewed and the most recent issue 61 is now available.

    Journal of the Week

Our current Journal of the Week is the Oxford Art Journal. This journal publishes innovative critical work in art history.   Articles in the current issue include Redefining Artistic Value in Communist China: Rent Collection Courtyard by Vivian Li and The Perils of Patrimoine: Art, History, and Narrative in the Immigration History Museum, Paris by Daniel J. Sherman.

Please let us know if there is anything we can do to improve our service. We love getting feedback - especially the kind that comes in the form of haikus!

    Academic Book Week in CCAM

Academic Book Week (a new initiative in Britain) runs from the 23rd to the 28th January 2017.

To mark the occasion we've changed the display in CCAM Library.

We've pulled items from both our New Arrivals and the Desk Reserve to reflect and celebrate:

"the diversity, innovation and influence of academic books"

--especially those pertaining to the courses on offer in GMIT's Centre for the Creative Arts and Media.

Suggestions or changes to the display are welcomed!

Library Ireland Week 2016 -Libraries: Empowering through Online Access.

We've taken the opportunity to highlight some of the online content the library provides - we have a large collection of e-books, e-journals, newspapers and databases.

The CUAL repository is another handy online resource - CUAL makes research by staff and students at the three institutes (GMIT, Letterkenny IT and Sligo IT) available to the academic, business and wider communities in the Connacht-Ulster Region of Ireland - http://cual.openrepository.com/cual

    And don't forget ...

Behind the desk - Graduate Profile

Katie Moore a visual artist based in the west of Ireland. Katie uses textiles, stitching and installation in
addition to drawing and video to create visual experiences of the world. She is a recent graduate of CCAM with a first class honours in Design in Textile. Slán Carmel

Carmel Kavanagh retires from GMIT after twelve years of service in the library. Most of that time was spent in CCAM Library.

Carmel’s interest in and enthusiasm for art and artistic work meant she was a great representative for the library service. Her own natural curiosity helped her research topics of interest for students and staff alike.

Carmel’s warm personality and sense of humour will be missed by all.

     Go n-éirí an bóthar leat...
