€10 Fine for Late Return of 'On Hold' Books

You know the story - you have an exam looming and the book you need is not available because the patron who has borrowed it does not return it on time, even when requested to repeatedly by library staff. We recognise the frustration and in an effort to combat this, we have introduced a new policy to encourage the return of ‘on hold’ books.

From January, a fine of €10.00 will be placed on the account of patrons who fail to return books requested by another borrower. This fine will be placed only after the patron has been contacted by library staff by text and phone call and given 2 days to return the item.

We hope this will eliminate the practice of holding on to heavily used and requested items in the lead up to exams.
